Residence "Il Castagno” lies in the hills some 800 yards from the mediaeval village of Campiglia Marittima.

A converted Tuscan farmhouse, the building is divided into eight apartments – four on the ground floor, three on the first and one on the second.

The building has been carefully and skilfully restored, every care being taken to retain the characteristics of traditional buildings, but with an eye to modern comforts.

Each apartment has full air conditioning and central heating. Each has an independent entrance, a private garden with barbecue and dining table,  TV and a wall safe. There is private parking for all our guests.

The residence is set in an ample garden with a swimming pool and hydro massage, all this surrounded by a centuries old chestnut grove.

Campiglia Marittima is one of those typical hilltop villages whose very survival to the present day so intact seems little short of a miracle.

It straddles two hills, the higher surmounted by the impressive remains of the ancient Rocca, or castle, now restored and open to the public. Dating back to the very beginnings of the second millennium, the central keep dominates the Cornia valley to the south, with a breathtaking panorama that extends over the Tuscan archipelago to distant Corsica on the horizon.

The village nestles beneath this, with a beautiful central piazza in the dip between the two hills.

There is a museum housing the artefacts that bear witness the history of the castle, another with fine examples of religious art and a third which testifies to the long history of mineral extraction that gave birth to the settlement itself.
